In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Take Me to the Moon.”
“Fly me to the moon and let me play amoung the stars,” Jenny sang to her new boyfriend as they exited the movie theater. Jimmy looked at her and just hugged her. After watching “Space Cowboys” they headed for Wescafe’s grand opening for a smoothie.
Jimmy drove to the tiny cafe on Webster Street in Alameda. They drove through the Posey Tube from Oakland. Jimmy pulled into a newly vacant spot in front.
“Oh, how lucky. We’re right in front. What kind of smoothie do you want?”
“Hmm, I’ll have what you’re having, surprise me.” Jenny said with a smile.
Jimmy came back to the car, handing the Strawberry Banana smoothies to Jenny through the window. It was almost closing time on Saturday, 6:00 pm.
“We got here just in time. You want to catch another movie?” Jimmy pulled out into traffic and headed towards the west side of the island.
“Maybe we should get a paper, I don’t know what’s playing at the Alameda theatre.”
“Let’s stop by Crown Memorial, and take a walk on the beach,” Jimmy suggested.
“That’s where you’re headed.” Jenny smiled. “I like that idea. Did you know there is a sand castle contest today at the beach?”
“Well, yeah, I was hoping you would want to go, do you?”
Jenny took his hand over the console in the car. “Yeah, I do.” She sipped on her smoothie and enjoyed the breeze through the window.
They strolled along the beach, admiring all the work finished later in the day. Standing in front of “Wally,” Jimmy commented, “Looks like he needs a scrumptious meal.”
The rest of the evening went pretty smoothly. Jenny hummed the Frank Sinatra song on the way to the car.
